Inside an 'F' school

Oklahoma’s A-F grading system is intended to be an easy way to judge the performance of public schools. The Tulsa World took an in-depth look at what’s going on in one of the 36 local schools that received failing marks. Journalists Andrea Eger, John Clanton, Mike Simons and Matt Barnard went to Hawthorne Elementary School during our month long project. Here’s what they found.

Alpha Plus congratulates "Reward" and other partner schools improving in 2013!

More than one third of schools (20 of 61 or 33%) served by Alpha Plus Educational Systems, Inc., in 2012-13 were identified as "2013 Reward Schools" by the Oklahoma State Department of Education.  Part of Oklahoma’s federal waiver of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the designations issued by the Oklahoma State Department of Education are dated Feb. 13, 2014. A "Reward" designation means these schools showed significant improvement or sufficiently high student achievement to warrant it under federal law.  The school designations are available on the OSDE website at http://www.ok.gov/sde/school-improvement.

In addition, four schools contracting with Alpha Plus in 2012-13 improved math and reading test scores enough to be removed from the ESEA list of low-performing schools.  Two of these improved from "Focus" level to "Reward" status! The “All Designations” PDF from the State Department of Education dated is available here:
