OAS for ELA/Math

Oklahoma Academic Standards for English Language Arts/Math:

2019 state test scores allow comparisons of grade-level performance by district.

Oklahoma Test Scores

The most gratifying part of our work with Oklahoma schools is helping them achieve academic success in their classrooms. Like most things these days, academic success can be determined by available data, should you choose to utilize the data that exists.

The Oklahoma State Department of Education recently released results from tests taken by students in grades 3-8 last spring. As always, our team analyzes this report as part of our evaluation of results for the schools we partnered with the previous year. It’s how we measure progress, and how we insure that the service we provide our schools is working.

It’s especially heartening to see our partner schools succeed against the odds. For example, Flower Mound Elementary, a Comanche County school, was once chronically low performing. Today it is one of the nation’s best.

For 2019, Flower Mound tied for 10th in Grade 3 English Language Arts (ELA) out of 482 districts that educate third-grade students. They also tied for 6th in Grade 4 ELA, and came in at 17th in Grade 5 ELA (though still scoring at the Proficient level, a 300 on the Oklahoma Performance Index scale). In math, Flower Mound ranked 14th for 3rd grade, 11th for 4th grade, and 10th for 5th grade.

It is exciting to see our schools score above the state average.

It’s even more instructive for us to know the scores of those that fall below the state average. We use this data along, with our own data, to determine what worked for these schools – and what could be improved upon.

Alpha Plus works with about 70 schools in 30-35 districts annually. In 2018-19, we partnered with nearly 500 teachers statewide, who educate about 12,000 students. While our schools may face similar challenges, their solutions are often quite unique.

For each school, our facilitators work hand-in-hand with teachers and administrators to create a program that will most likely lead to student success. That’s the goal, and by using the data, we know when our schools hit the mark.
